Dr. Dr. h.c. Marc Bohner is a leading scientist in the field of biomaterials, particularly in bioceramics and bone substitute materials. With a background in materials science from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology of Lausanne (EPFL), he earned his PhD in calcium phosphate-based bone cements and has since dedicated his career to advancing biomaterials research .
Since 1998, Marc Bohner has been a key figure at the RMS Foundation, where he has led multiple research groups, including the Skeletal Substitutes and Bioceramics & Biocompatibility teams. Currently, he heads the Research and Knowledge Transfer group. His research focuses on the development, characterization, and application of calcium phosphate-based biomaterials, bone graft substitutes, and drug delivery systems.
Marc Bohner is an internationally recognized expert, with over 140 peer-reviewed publications, an H-index exceeding 56, and more than 500 citations annually. He has delivered over 150 invited lectures worldwide and actively contributes to the scientific community through editorial roles, including as an editor of Acta Biomaterialia. His contributions have earned him prestigious recognitions, such as the George Winter Award from the European Society for Biomaterials and an honorary doctorate from Uppsala University .
Beyond research, Marc Bohner has played a significant role in professional organizations, serving as president of the GRIBOI association and holding leadership positions in various biomaterials societies. His work has led to multiple patents and commercially available biomaterials, underscoring his impact on both academia and industry .
