We cooperate with industry partners, professional associations, academic institutions and doctors to share knowledge and drive innovation. For example, we organize scientific conferences and support universities in holding lectures and workshops. We also support talented individuals on their technical or scientific path - from vocational training to doctoral studies.
The 13th [MEET THE EXPERT] Implants Conference, titled “Materials and Surface Technology for Implants,” took place on November 5, 2024, in the Concert Hall in Solothurn, Switzerland. Over 115 representatives from implant manufacturers, suppliers, and service providers, as well as universities and institutes, attended the event. .
The 14th [MEET THE EXPERT] Implants Conference is scheduled for Fall 2026.
The programs and abstracts of all previous [MEET THE EXPERT] Implants conferences can be found here:
In this section you will find presentations that RMS Foundation employees have given at conferences and trade fairs.
Biodegradable magnesium implants offer promising solutions for medical applications. They support the tissue during healing and then decompose safely in the body, eliminating the need for a second operation to remove the implant.
Details in the presentation by Dr. Thomas Imwinkelried, which he gave at ORTHOMANUFACTURE 2024 in Saline royale d'Arc-et-Senans (F) on May 16, 2024 (in English).
The dynamic loading of medical devices generates abrasion particles that can enter the body, depending on the area of application. In order to assess the risk to the patient, it is important to know the size, shape and composition of the particles.
Details in the presentation by Dr. Roman Heuberger, which he gave at the Swiss Medtech Expo 2021 in Lucerne on September 14, 2021.
In this study on differently manufactured tensile specimens made of Ti6Al4V, it is shown that high strengths but only low elongation at break can be achieved with additive manufacturing. The findings confirm the need for testing the chemical and mechanical properties.
Details in the presentation by Dr. Lukas Eschbach, which he gave at the Swiss Medtech Expo 2021 in Lucerne on September 14, 2021.
The presentation by Dr. Marc Bohner, entitled "On the importance of surface and interface contaminants in beta-tricalcium phosphate bone graft substitutes" was given at the online conference "Ceramics 2021 / 96th DKG Annual Meeting" in April 2021.
The presentation by Dr. Yassine Maazouz, entitled "A new, fast and quantitative mineralization test method to identify osteoinductive bone substitute materials" was given at the online conference "World Biomaterials Congress 2020" in December 2020.
The presentation by Dr. Nicola Döbelin, entitled"A thermodynamic approach to surface modification of calcium phosphate phases by phosphate evaporation" was given at the online conference "World Biomaterials Congress 2020" in December 2020.
The presentation by Dr. Bastien Le Gars Santoni, RMS Foundation, entitled "Effect of the Ca/P ratio on the osteoclastic resorption of pure β-TCP cylinders" was given at the online conference "World Biomaterials Congress 2020" in December 2020.
Particulate contamination in medical devices can jeopardize patient safety. In her presentation at the Swiss Medtech Expo Lucerne in September 2019, Simona Rohrer will use the example of an abdominal dressing set to show how particulate impurities can be identified and toxicologically assessed.
The need for medical device markings raises questions about their durability. The RMS Foundation tested the corrosion resistance of laser markings for a manufacturer of orthopaedic implants. In his presentation at the Swiss Medtech Expo in Lucerne, Dr. Lukas Eschbach shows how the resistance could be specifically optimized.
Dr. Roman Heuberger, Team Leader Surfaces & Tribology at the RMS Foundation, shows how arc PVD and HiPIMS coatings for orthopaedic implants were developed in a research consortium. The presentation was held at the Forum of the Swiss Medtech Expo Lucerne 2017.
