Dr. Christoph Stähli

Senior Scientist Bioceramics

Dr. Christoph Stähli is a senior scientist with a strong background in materials science, analytical chemistry and cell biology. He earned his B.Sc. (2007) and M.Sc. (2009) from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL), where he completed his Master’s thesis on the tribocorrosion resistance of biomedical CoCrMo alloys. In 2014, he obtained his Ph.D. from McGill University, Montreal, Canada, where his research focused on the stimulation of angiogenesis (growth of blood vessels) through copper ion release from bioactive glasses. In 2018, he obtained a CAS in Management of Biotech, Medtech & Pharma Ventures from EPFL.

Since joining RMS Foundation in 2015, he has been providing materials testing and consulting services, alongside conducting research in the field of synthetic calcium phosphate-based bone substitute materials. Positioned at the interface of industry and fundamental research, he has developed new analytical methods specifically tailored to meet regulatory requirements of medical device manufacturers. His work has placed particular emphasis on trace element analysis using inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) and in vitro dissolution testing. His research has aimed to deepen the understanding of how crystalline phase structure, chemical composition, and processing parameters influence the physicochemical properties of calcium phosphate ceramics.
