History of the RMS Foundation

On 14 February 1985, Dr Robert Mathys established a non-profit organisation for the promotion of medical and clinical research as well as of technical development and further training in their fields of application.

Members of the first board of trustees of the Dr Robert Mathys Foundation based in Bettlach were Dr Robert Mathys Sr. as president, Hugo Mathys, Lisbeth Mathys, Reinhold Mathys, Robert Mathys Jr., and Ursula Marzo-Mathys.

With the adaption of the statutes per 11th March 1992 the research group and the test laboratory of the founding company (Mathys Ltd Bettlach) were integrated in the Dr Robert Mathys Foundation (RMS), where 15 employees worked at the beginning of the restructuring.

The Foundation’s steady growth into a competent research institute and service laboratory is based on wide experience and know-how in medical technology.

Based on the certification in accordance with EN ISO 9001 in the year 1993 and the accreditation of the first laboratory activities according to ISO/IEC 17025 in the year 1995 the RMS could successively open up further fields of activities and application as an independent service provider and research partner.

Today, the RMS Foundation with its 36 employees is engaged in applied research and offers analytical, materialographical and technological tests, advisory services, education and training as well as technology transfer for its customers from the medical and materials technology industry or further industry sectors.
