Infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) Overview Chemical Analysis

System: FT-IR microscope Lumos (Bruker)

Infrared spectroscopy (Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy FT-IR) for the identification of organic substances, polymers, adhesives, fats, oils, etc. A fully automated FT-IR microscope with motorized ATR crystal (ATR = attenuated total reflection) is available for completely automated measurements on microscopic samples (solids, powders, liquids) in the measurement modes transmission, reflection and ATR

Useful tips:

Suitable samples: Solids, liquids, gases
Sample specifications:
  • Solids: Minimum quantity 0.1 g
  • Powder samples:  Minimum quantity 0.1 g
  • Liquids:     Minimum quantity 1 ml
  • Delivery in clean aluminum foil, clean container (no adhesive tape!)
  • strongly dependent on the composition (> lower % range).
  • Materials: polymers, ceramics, oils, greases, solvents, etc.
  • Sample type: solids, powders, liquids, thin sections, gases
  • Measuring range: 4500 - 350 cm-1

  • Identification of organic + (partially) inorganic compounds
  • Polymers
  • Determination of the dichroic ratio of polymer chains (polarized FTIR measurements)
  • Particle analysis (cleanliness, VDA 19)
