In the RMS Foundation different tribological tests are at your disposal. We are ready to develop for you also a specific and function-related wear test apart from the attempts on commercial test devices.
«pin-on-disk» wear test (OrthoPOD)
The OrthoPOD 6-station test setup and weight measurement are used for screening tests to investigate and determine the wear behaviour of two gliding partners in a freely selectable type of burden and motion sequence.
Device: 2 «pin-on-disk» test setup OrthoPODTM, AMTI, Watertown, USA

Endolab Hip-Simulator / Backbone-Simulator
Wear test of implants of invertebral discs according to ISO/CD 18192 and respectively hipsimulation according to ISO 14242-1. The testing bench offers the possibility for the simultaneous testing of n=6 samples as well as two additional reference samples. The equipment works on servo-hydraulic base with 4 independent control loops. The use of servo hydraulics afford a free programming of the load- and motionalcurve.
Device: 6-station Hipsimulator, EndoLap, Thansau/Rosenheim, DE

Please read more about Hipsimulator in our Newsletter No. 9
Function-related wear tests
These tests are realised in a dry state or in a liquid media by means of multi-axial, hydraulic and electrical test facilities. Various degrees of freedom in an axial and torsional direction are available as well as two axes for bending loads. The movement kinematics and the force introduction can be combined in different ways, depending on the equipment.
Device: MTS 858 Mini Bionix with 4 degrees of freedom (hydraulic) / Knee-joint test bench with 3 degrees of freedom (hydraulic, self-made) / Articulation test bench with 2 degrees of freedom (electromotor, self-made)
