The friction of the articulating artificial sliding surfaces and the thereby emerging particles unfavourably influence the biological environment of the implants. The decrease or the prevention of wear as well as the clarification of the influence of the particles on the tissue are of great importance.

The RMS wishes to avoid wear as well as to improve the biocompatibility of the materials used and of the wear products.
