In the RMS Foundation a number of further analytic and experimental methods for the investigation of samples, components as well as for consulting are available.
Finite Element Analyses
The Finite Element Method (FEM) or the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) serves to determine the tensions, elongations or temperatures in prefabricated parts, components and products. Based on geometric data and/or CAD models, this analytical, computer-based calculation method permits structural and/or thermal analyses and optimisations as well as the presentation of the results as individual values or as distribution pictures.
Device: High-performance PC with «HyperMesh» and «HyperView» pre/post-processor software and «ANSYS» analytical software

Please read more on "Finite Element Analysis" in our Newsletter No 8.
Optical 3D Deformation Analysis
Optical measurement technology for time-resolved displacement and strain analysis on surfaces of materials and components under static or dynamic load. Can be used with any testing machine as long as the surfaces to be measured are visible.
Device: Optical 3D Deformation Analysis device GOM Aramis 2M

Heat treatment
Laboratory kilns for heat treatments without protective gas on samples of different sizes up to a temperature of 1600°C with controlled preheating rate.
Device: High-temperature furnace Nabertherm L02/16

Climatic chamber tests
The climatic chamber test serves to condition, precipitate and age samples, components and prefabricated parts on defined climatic conditions (temperature, humidity) in order to assess their resistance and/or implement possible subsequent tests.
Device: Feutron climatic chamber, Type 3433/15

Washing, sterilisation and cleaning test for surgical instruments
Serves to verify the application requirements of surgical (orthopaedic and dental) instruments with regard to washing, sterilisation and cleaning, and includes handling tests between tests as well as during and after the test. It also serves to investigate the softening and stress cracking susceptibility of handles and synthetic instruments.
Device: Autoclave «Tuttnauer 2540E» / automated laboratory washer «G7783 MIELABOR» / Drying oven «WTB Binder»

Literature reviewing
Serves to research and critically evaluate the relevant literature on subjects of medical (orthopaedic, trauma), materials, and processing technologies based on the input of customers, and to summarise the findings in a comprehensible report that is adapted to the previous knowledge of the customer.
Contact: Lukas Eschbach, Lukas.Eschbach(at)rms-foundation.ch, +41 (0)32 644 16 98
Planning of investigations and tests
It includes the test planning of the chemical, physical, mechanical and biological properties of surgical instruments, implants, component parts, and components from the medical, materials, and production technologies.
