Butscher André

Head of Mechanics Group

Andre Butscher has been working for the RMS Foundation since Mai 2001. From 1995 to 2000 he studied mechanical engingeering at the ETH (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology) in Zurich, focusing on engineering design and biomechanics. His studies involved stays abroad in Germany and USA. His Master thesis addressed the development of a new glenoid design for total shoulder arthroplasty.

After his Master degree, he served as a volunteer teacher in Samoa before joining the RMS Foundation where he currently works as head of the biomechanics group. He deals with a large variety of commitments in the experimental and simulation field for optimisation of implants and instruments used in traumatology and orthopaedics. He is also in charge of RMS biomechanics research projects with numerous external partners.

While working at the RMS Foundation Andre Butscher started part-time a doctoral thesis at ETH Zurich. The project is a collaboration between the RMS Foundation and the Institute for Biomechanics at ETH under the supervision of Prof. Ralph Müller on the topic of scaffold optimisation for tissue engineering.
